Is 6 hours of sleep enough for a 14 year old?

Is 6 hours of sleep enough for a 14 year old? The answer to this question is NO.

No, 6 hours of sleep is not enough for a 14-year-old teen. Any teenager who is young and growing needs at least 8 to 10 hours of sleep every night. It is unhealthy for a growing and young teen to sleep only six hours a day.

While we are teenagers and we are just growing, our mind and body need enough sleep to stay healthy and fine. Sleep is an essential part of our daily routine as it helps us relax and get out of the day's tiredness.

Sleep deprivation may cause you different physical and mental disorders. Your brain needs rest to think and stay well. If you don't allow it to take rest and sleep, it will stop thinking and functioning as it always uses to do.

Similarly, if you don't allow your body to sleep and take rest, then its physical parts will be injured and will not function as before.

Sleep is, however, a very essential thing for all ages of our life. But when you are a teenager you should sleep at least 8 to ten hours. Coz teenage is the time when your hormones are being released and your body gets boosted with its physical growth, mental growth and sexual growth.

You are not a full-grown human now and it's just your teen years. So, relax and sleep as much as required, don't trouble your body by any means. As a teen, you need to monitor your resting periods and should take it to the correct metrics.

You need to keep your body well and relaxed every day. Just sleep in time and stay away from addictive electronic gadgets during the nighttime. As they will not only harm your sleep but will also harm your eyes.

The most common reasons that lead teens to sleep late and wake up early are as follows:
  • During the teenage, the teen brain is most likely to delay the melatonin release in the brain. Which causes them to sleep late and not before 11pm in the night.
  • Once a teen spends a lot of time doing extracurricular activities and stuff, they are most likely to sleep late. Their projects and stuff keep them busy and make them work on them for late nights.
  • Too much homework can also cause them to lose sleep at night. Their excessive homework load will make them stay awake during the night.
  • Excessive intake of caffeine and related products will make your teen avoid sleep. He or she will get addicted to staying awake all night.
  • Addiction to video games or any other electronic gadget can make your teen avoid sleep at night. These things are literally weird and cause sleep deprivation to your teen child.
  • Early morning school timings will always keep your teen deprived of the required sleep. He or she may sleep in the school instead of sleeping at night.
So, it is well concluded, that a 6-hour sleep is not enough for a 14-year-old teenager. And he or she needs at least 8 to 10 hours of sleep every night.
