How old do you have to be to drive a boat by yourself?

How old do you have to be to drive a boat by yourself? The answer to this question is 12 years.

You should be at least 12 years old to drive a boat all by yourself. Anyone who is younger than this age should never drive a boat on their own. All around the globe, the minimum age to drive a boat is twelve years. Anyone who is younger this age is not recommended to drive a boat all alone.

You need to be at least this age to have good knowledge about boats and it's functions. However, experience also matters, when it comes to driving a boat on the endless water bodies. A kid who is younger than 12 shouldn't even dare to go near the boats.

Coz it is simply dangerous to allow a kid to drive and ride a boat all alone. Driving a boat may seem easy but it actually has a lot of danger in it. As a kid, you may not be aware of the dangers of the water, that the boat is floating on.

Cases are there where adult drivers have died while driving their boats. So, you guys are only kids, be aware of the world and the dangerous water boats.

Even if a kid of 12 years is able to drive a boat, it shouldn't mean that he or she should drive a boat. Driving a boat is easy as any other thing in this big world. But just think with the perspective of an adult, is it okay to leave a 12-year-old kid to drive a boat? No, absolutely not.

Kids are innocent and they have their own worlds of fascination, they can find fun out of anything they go through. Driving boats is also a great way of fun for them, but it's not that safe. Even a fraction of faults can cause the boat to stop and can put your kid in danger.

Plus the water can't be trusted at all, everything depends on nature. Nobody can predict the future and nobody knows how harsh it can be. So, even if your kid is 12 or older, you shouldn't leave him/her alone to drive a boat.

Boat driving requires skills along with experience, you need to be experienced enough to deal with. And young kids simply lack this very important thing.

As the region varies, the minimum age also varies. States like Alaska, Idaho, Massachusetts, Montana, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota doesn't even have a minimum age requirement.

Whereas, states like Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio requires children to be at least 12.

However, states like Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, Virginia, Washington requires children to be at least 14.

So, it is well concluded that as the region varies, the age restriction also varies. But as an adult, you need to keep the safety constant. Always send your kid with all the safety equipment required to drive a boat.
