ONGC full form in English: Oil and Natural gas corporation.

The ONGC is an Indian MNC and PSU corporation. That specialises in the public business of oil and natural gas. This New Delhi based corporation deals with consumer demands of crude oil and usable gas. The entire working body of ONGC follows the orders of its state-based enterprise. Moreover, this organisation is under the control of the Ministry of Petroleum and natural gas. Under the command of the central government. 70-80 out of 100 consumers uses its services. Making it the country's largest crude oil and gas provider. In the same vein, ONGC has received the prestigious Maharatna tag from the government of India. ONGC is a mass provider of oil and natural gas in India. According to its gigantic consumer count. It has to operate its services through its smaller subsidiaries. In order to feed such a large number of consumer, countrywide. ONGC runs its services via the following subsidiaries:

1. ONGC Videsh Limited (OVL): It is the subsidiary that supervises foreign demands and relations. OVL was rechristened on 15th of June, 1989. It takes care of the oil and gas production. Along with its distribution procedures in foreign countries. The OVL is known to run more than thirty projects on the same niche. Being the foreign arm, ONGC holds complete hundred per cent stake of it.

2. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL): The HPCL is only for the Indian population. This particular subsidiary is known to produce oil and gas for the country. Having a prefix of Hindustan simply clarifies the task. Being headquartered in Mumbai, the company owes 25% share in the PSU sector. But, its parent company, i.e ONGC holds only fifty-one per cent shares of it. However, the rest is left for individual investors and general public demands.


3. ONGC Mangalore Petrochemicals Limited: This is another important subsidiary of ONGC. However, it is promoted and supported by ONGC & MRPL both. Moreover, they work collectively for the public demands of oil, gas and petrochemicals. MRPL is alone a big company and has its own subsidiaries. OMPL being the main among all is a huge complex. In other words, it was made with an investment of about 5000 crore rupees. Moreover, this Mangalore based subsidiary is a great asset to the Indian government.

4. ONGC sports: It is a completely different niche based subsidiary. But ONGC sports is known to own several different Indian sports teams. However, there is hardly any sport left with it. Starting from tennis, badminton, to cricket, football. It has its grasp overall kind of sports and their respective teams. However, it also owns several teams of chess, ludo, carrom, table tennis. And other small games like these.


Being an excellent national and international fuel contributor. Moreover, this corporation has been honoured by several different awards and tags. Most notable among them are as follows:

  • Above all, it has won the Golden Peacock award twice. Once in the year of 2013 for occupational health and safety category. And once in 2014, for its corporate social responsibilities practices.
  • It was awarded by the Best company promoting sports award by FICCI in the year of 2014.
  • Moreover, it has also won, the Greentech Excellence Award in the platinum category, 2013.
  • Had remained the title sponsor for the Corporate social responsibility (CSR) award given by Amar Ujala.
