Above all, the LAN is a computer network spread over the local area. The prefix local completely clarifies this. The network LAN is mostly built-in offices and schools. Where data sharing is needed to be instant and immediate. However, they are even built to share the internet within a single internet connection. LAN is very beneficial for places where several different computers are used collectively. Most of the LAN networks are built intentionally. And all of them are known to be privately owned. However, LANs are used for sharing of stuff like documents, software. Furthermore, also for connecting scanners, printers and a ton of other machines.


Coming to its history, the earliest LAN networks were built in the early 1970s. As they say: " Necessity gives birth to inventions". The LAN was also built after the increased necessity of sharable computer networks. Places like schools and colleges are all in a need of fast connections. That consequence the birth of LAN. After the 1970s, a handful of terms began to emerge. And they all represent technologies related to the network of LAN. Begining from Wifi, Ethernet, FTP, GCCS and a ton of other of this kind. However, knowing the LAN full form in a computer is worth it.



TECHNOLOGIES USED IN LANs:


1. WIFI-LAN: The WIFI technology used in LANs make it wireless. LANs of this kind are used and accessed via wireless fidelity. The connection is completely shareable. It is spread all over the range, the network can reach. Furthermore, this type of LANs is mostly used. In offices, schools, hospitals, reservation counters, airport counters and all other service-providing sectors.


2. Ethernet-LAN: This type of LAN employs an ethernet cable for its connections. The entire network is required to be connected via ethernet cables. That helps the sharable network to reach all the connected computers. It is a kind of messy since a lot of wires are used in it. Moreover, the Ethernet LAN is expensive and time-consuming. Since, it demands the usage of a ton of wires, cables and connecting parts.


Both the above LAN techniques are widely used in office and school-based networks. But when the need comes to a big organisation. They may switch to LANs via fibre optics. These kind of networks are expensive though. But the main benefit is that. They provide higher and better speeds than the above two. However, knowing the LAN full form in computer is worth it.



TOPOLOGIES USED IN LANs:


Topology refers to the type of connection that a network is made of. Moreover, it is the graphical representation of the network. The circuit is comprised of.


1. Bus topology: In this kind of topology, the entire network is connected to the main server. Often referred to as the backbone. Is the point from where every single emerges out. Most importantly, bus networks are available at very cheap prices. They often provide a relatively easy setup to set the connection. However, to be very specific, the ethernet LAN uses this topology.

2. Ring topology: This kind of topology refers to a ring kinda connection. All the necessary devices are connected in the form of a loop. And this loop could be thought of a closed ring. In this type, each device is connected to one another adjacently. There is a bit of disadvantage in using this topology. It is expensive and imparts difficulties getting set up. But they are known to provide relatively higher bandwidth and range.

3. Star topology: All the external connections have links to the central hub device. The central hub device acts as a junction, joining several computers combinedly. They are very easy to install and setup. This kind of topologies promotes easy and cheap maintenance. The only risk is of the formation of bottlenecks. As they may block the movement of data. Furthermore, combined networks like the bus-star network are also used. It is the mixture of all the three topologies. However, these networks are beneficial and productive. Involving a bus star connection in the network. Makes a high bandwidth bus, that imparts several other low bandwidth star segments. However, knowing the LAN full form in computer is worth it.



PROS OF THE LAN:


1. Device sharing: The LAN enables its users to share various connected devices. That enables the flow of electronic data among them. However, the LAN makes the sharing possible between devices like printers, scanner, CD ROMs etc. The ultimate benefit that happens. Is that, it saves money, time and manpower.

2. Stable data storage: The LAN enables stable data storage. The main data that is needed to be shared. Is entirely stored in a hard disk. Which is present inside the central computer. This also gives users a choice. To use any computer present in the chain of them.

3. Data security: The data being shared via the LAN is always secured. It is completely free from internet scams and errors. Since the data is stored in the server computer. Moreover, there is no risk of data loss- or data leak. The entire data is safe, secure and shareable.



CON OF THE LAN:


Expensive: The LAN network is quite expensive to set up. Moreover, it requires a lot of effort and works if it is not WIFI-LAN. The reason for its high cost is its software. Moreover, the different connection parts and equipment also adds to its cost.
