ABOUT THE STORY

The story begins in the month of March of 1951 when a meteorite strikes the east coast of the United States obliterating Washington DC and destroying a large portion of the country. This meteorite strike causes a climate shift, which in turn will lead to uninhabitable conditions on the planet. Which means that humanity will not be able to survive on the earth for that much longer this cataclysmic event speeds up. The timeline of the Space Age it makes the space program a more international effort and it creates an earlier epoch Essaouira Lewington into space.

The astronaut program, the calculating stars really only concerns the period of time between the meteorite strike in 1951 and landing the first people on the moon in 1958. We will see all of this happening through the eyes of the main character Dr Elma York who is a mathematician and pilot. She initially joins the space program as a computer though she is capable of much more. Knows immediately that she wants to be an astronaut. She has all the qualifications necessary.

The only problem is she's a woman and despite her extreme anxiety in the face of reporters, cameras and large groups of people. She somehow finds herself as the figurehead of a movement to get women accepted as astronaut candidates. The first thing that can be noticed about the alternate history timeline here is that the space program is much more of an international effort. Even though it's mainly based on American soil, many of the earliest astronaut candidates and eventual full-fledged astronauts are not all American. This is the topper of our list of Sci-fi books to read 2018.

The Monster Hunter and at the beginning of the book is in typical urban fantasy fashion. She gets recruited to take on this monster case and it ends up being more than she initially thought. At first glance and everything kind of takes off from there. So first opened up with the world-building. This is an urban fantasy but it's not so urban that it takes place in a city. It takes place out in like the desolate post-apocalyptic countryside.

A lot of natural disasters and horrible things that have happened and the world is completely changed but in this part of what used to be the United States the Native Americans have kind of walled themselves off with this magical walls. They're all contained inside of it and safe inside of it because everything outside is just complete and utter chaos.

But inside a lot of the myths and monsters from Native American folklore have awakened and are also wreaking that all kinds of havoc take place. It's more of like a desolate kind, almost like borderlands the video game type world where there are people and there are settlements. The world is portrayed is very rough. The world is like a post-apocalyptic world and this Native American myth and folklore stuff. Which can't be seen in urban fantasy. It's like the fantasy creatures are not normal they are portrayed based on a completely different set of mythology creatures. The character Darrow in this book was a little different. He was kind of a pessimist and the reason behind him being a pessimist is the type of government his state has. He delved into this bureaucratic democratic government. That's much slower than the government before and that provides a lot more red tape. This is what he feels he needs to do to accomplish his goals and ridding the universe. The solar system of society will make the readers upset whenever being mentioned. He uses to decide things for others. In order to take over Venus which was the stronghold for basically the remnants of the society.

He sentenced two million people to their death. And not only did he do that, but he also did that is contrary to the Democratic government. The government that he had sworn to tell him to do and that was just because he did not want to play the long-form. Did not want to see Venus. He wanted to provide quick action and just destroy them, and then ask for more troops to be delivered to him. Wanted to regrow his army. The other character Lysander is Octavia a loom's grandson so he's the heir to the Loom throne.

He's also mentored by Cassius Darrow's lover. He goes into the Jupiter moons where they have created a society of their own. This society is a little different because it's basically what the Iron Gold is. The actual people who created the society meant for it to be a self-sufficient society where everybody in the hierarchy actually plays the roles. They should be respected.  It will be not an elitist society but will be sighted where everybody knows their roles. Sci-fi books to read 2018.

The collaboration gives the Murderbot to achieve new heights. According to the story, humans were too busy trying to get wherever they were going or searching the feed for directions and transport. Someone had hitched a ride on and the big mall between the different embarked Asian zones was crowded beside the humans.

There were bots of all different shapes and sizes, drones buzzing along above the crowd and cargo moving on the overhead walkways. ABOUT THE STORY

The story goes like the universe is absolutely teeming with life. Although no one can decide who is sentience and who isn't the sentience. Wars that resulted from this tour the galaxies. Then a new tradition was created, the metagalactic Grand Prix everyone takes part. Part talent shows part song contest part survival game newly discovered species that are quite literally singing for their survival.

Because if they come lust then they are wiped out and this year it's their turn. It is really hard to convince the synopsis down because there's just so much here. This story definitely breaks the fourth wall in setting up the universe it does that in order to set up this expansive setting really quite quickly.

It's very much in the style and tone of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the galaxy which could become favourite of anyone who reads it. It worked really well to explain this universe teeming with life but doesn't over-explain everything in a huge info-dump all at once. There is a good chunk of information in the first chapter of this book. Then we find out more and more, as the story progresses there is still plenty to discover as the reader continues reading. The story is surprisingly dense and the paperback is under 300 pages.
